Correspondence.

[We do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed BY OUR CORRESPONDENTS.] THE FOXTON BAND. • (to editor of manawatu HERALD.) Sir, —The misconception that has arisen in the public mind as to the affairs of the band is the apology I offer for addressing this letter to you, and which I trust you will place before your many readers. Two years ago the members of the band vested in the Foxton Borough Council as trustees for the residents of the district all their property (instruments, uniforms, music stands and music) to the value of about Since then instruments to the value cf have been purchased, making a total asset of over ,£3OO. Of this amount there remains a balance ,£6O to be paid. " No accommodation is given for the safe keeping of this property, and the buffeting from one place to another is disheartening to those who actively interest themselves in the band. We therefore appeal to the public (and to our Civic Fathers) to assist us in securing some suitable place wherein we can with safety store this property. We are indebted to the School Committee for our present room, but as other meetings are held in the same place, we are considerably inconvenienced with our practices. A bandmaster has been appointed it a salary of per year, the bandsmen guaranteeing the amount. The charge for tuition is 5s to join and thereafter 2s 6d on- month, this small charge enabling every youth whose ideas are in that direction to receive careful teaching by a capable tutor. The Hud lauds an instrument for such 'earner.'' In conclusion, I again appeal to the public to assist us to liquidate our debt and to give a suitable Trice for the safe storage of their >wii property (which is at present scattered in many directions.) Thanking you for the space you have kindly given.—l am, &c., Ex-BAjnDSMAN. Foxton. 9th Aiig., 1906.
