AMUSEMENTS.

MONTGOMERY’S COMPANY. ’FRISCO PICTURES. TO-NIGHT. With his customary enterprise, Mr Edmund Montgomery will be first in the field with a pictorial oourtrayal of what can be truly termed one of the world’s greatest tragedies —the appalling dual visitations of earthquake and fire which recently devastated the fair city of San Francisco. Gallons of ink have been spilt in efforts to :onvey some idea of the immensity of the awful havoc wrought by the fearful catastrophe, but it remains or that wonderful invention of modern days, cinematography, to vividly focus in the mind’s eye the dread realities of the Frisco holocaust. Within a few hours of the receipt of the news of the disaster, i large staff of hiograph operators vere dispatched to the stricken city, and while tire lire fiend was icing bravely-attacked, and lionhearted rescuers were at work, the instantaneous photograph cameras .vere busy faithfully recording on thousands of feet of film, the many scenes of chaos and grandeur that were to be met with on every side. Our exchanges all speak very highly of the ’Frisco pictures which Mr Montgomery has been exhibiting during the last fortnight in the Taranaki district. Another uve-inspiring sight in the eruption' of Mt, Vesuvius will also re graphically displayed. Among new faces to appear with the Montgomery Company at Foxton to-night will be Mr W. H. Montgomery, a brother of the proprietor. He has only just arrived from London, where he was a prime favourite at the leading theatres. lie was also associated with several old-established opera companies at Home, and for some time filled the very important role of principal baritone to the D’Oyley Carte Opera Company. LONDON {PICTURE COMj PANY. TO-MORROW AND MONDAY NIGHT. Commenting on the London Picture Coy.’s performance, an exchange says ; The pictures thrown upon the screen were seen to great advantage and much appreciated, as were also the songs by Mr Gauraont, who possesses a strong baritone voice, which he uses with splendid effect. “Nazareth.” “Soul’s Awakening,” “ Eight of the World,” “Dream of Paradise,” and “Cavalry” were the items rendered. his extended range of voice enabling him to do full justice to the composer’s theme in each instance. He is undoubtedly the most powerful singer that has ever visited Pahiatua, and with organ instead of piano accompaniment would have been heard to even much better advantage than was the case last evening, especially as the items were all of a sacred character. He gave an excellent recital of Bracken's “ Not Understood,” with pianoforte accompaniment. The company give a sacred performance tomorrow night, when

they should receive a bumper house at the public hall. On Monday night the company present a programme of a humorous nature, when popular prices will be charged. BROADY’S VAUDEVILLE COMPANY. The above company is billed to play next Tuesday, 14th instant, in the Public Hall, Eoxtou. And as it is some considerable time since we were visited by a good variety company it will be a pleasant change to lovers of good music and songs, comic and otherwise, to witness Broady’s Company.
