The annual general meeting of the Foxton Racing Club will be held at the Racing Club’s Office on Wednesday next at 8 p.m The report and balance-sheet will then be brought forward for adoption. Owing to counter attractions it was impossible to muster a quorum of the’Athletic Club Committee last night, and the transaction o' important business had to be adjourned. Six enthusiasts were on the appointed spot, but .waited in vain for the seventh who (if he came) would have allowed the conduct of business. The Magistrate at Christchurch yesterday gave judgment for £2? damages and costs against the Tramway Company, a motorman in whose employ neglected to take proper precautions in a block of traffic in Victoria street, and collided with a trap driven by Mrs Lloyd. The trap was capsized, and the occupant injured. The Customs Department has decided to admit free of duty yarns and mercerised cotton used in the manufacture of tweeds. These articles come under the heading 0' those “to be used solely in the r abrication of goods in the colony.” The remission will be ot value to the colonial woollen manufacturers. We understand Lord Blimey is the title designated to the chief of the Brigand Secret Society. Acting,under instructions from Levin and Co., Ltd,, A. E. Mabin gives ’ notice to-day that he will offer by public auction at Messrs Rutherford and Connell’s rooms, Rangitikei Street, Palmerston N., the whole of the Flaxmill plant, buildings, and appliances, lately owned by Mr G. A. Simpson, on Waitatapia Estate, Bulls, together with cutting rights over the flax oir the Estate for seven years from 30th April, 1905. See advert. An organ-grinder who has seen fit to visit Foxton received something in the shape of an unexpected bath last evening. He was in the act of discussing sweet music on a local footpath, evidently unaware that some wag on a balcony overhead had been wait ing his arrival with the contents of a water-jug. The result was the musician received the contents with such force on his cranium that he packed up his traps and beat a .hasty retreat. Bookmakers’ premises throughout New Zealand will be discoriy nected with the telephone ex-v change from the end of next month, in accordance with a recent decision of Cabinet. At the Moutoa schoolroom on Thursday evening last, a pleasant social time was spent by district settlers and visitors in verse, song and game. Amongst those vocalists who assisted were Miss Hamer, Mrs Chard, and Messrs J. Gillies, E. Marshall, and J. Chard.
