Flax-Grading.

Auckland, July 23. A conference attended by fifty Sax-millers was held to-day. Mr Ritcbie, Secretary for Agriculture, presided. The grading system was discussed, and various regulations proposed by the department. As a result, the grading system will be considerably changed, and instead of the°old system of points 1 new system will be installed. It was resolved that in future grading should be “ common,” 50 to 59; •‘fair,” 60 to 69;. “good fair,” 70 to 79 ; “fine,” 80 to 89; and “superior,” 90 ito 100. The department had proposed to make regulations with eight points margin, but the principle of ten points margin was upheld. Discussion also took place regarding the five divisions, and resulted in favour of 20 points for washing, 20 for stripping, 20 for bleaching, and 20 for strength.
