Foxton Borough Council.

SPECIAL MEETING. At a special meeting of the Council called last evening, there were present—His Worship the Mayor (B. G. Gower, Esq.), Crs Baker, Frankland, Stiles, Moore, Shadbolt and Hickson. The Mayor called upon Mr Fraser to explain why the meeting was called, and the Town Clerk replied that it was necessary to fix the amount of sinking fund of Council Chambers Loan and also to appoint a Sinking Fund Commissioner. He had personally had an interview with Mr Lamb, Government Auditor, re the matter, and the latter had thrown forth suggestions, which Council may act upon. Mr Fraser then went on to explain that more than sufficient should be received from the different sources from which revenue could be obtained. Personally, he estimated about a year would be raised from rent of Borough shops and offices, a grant from Library funds, etc. Much in detail was then discussed by Council as to rents likely to be charged for Borough offices and shops, after which Council approved of the following motion, which was carried unanimously Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Baker, That in connection with the Council Chambers Loan of the sinking fund be fixed at 5 per cent, and the Public Trustee be appointed Sinking Fund Commissioner.
