«> The Dreyfus Case- - eong-deeayed justice. Paris, July 13. The Court of Cessation decided that Dreyfus was innocent and quashed the judgment of the Rennes Court as erroneous and unjustified, and it was decided that no fresh trial was necessary. The Government intend to promote Dreyfus to Major aud a Chevalier of the Region of Honour, and Picquart a Brigadier-General. M. Etienne, Minister for the Interior, introduced into the Chamber of Deputies, Bills reinstating Captains Dreyfus and Picquart amidst loud cheering. The Senate voted, by a large majority, money for the erection in its gallery of busts of Senators Trarieux and Scheurer-Kestner who first favoured Dreyfus’s innocence and were his witnesses at the various trials. Paris, July 15. General Mercier declared that the Rennes judgment was much more convincing than that of the Court of Cassation. A senator ejaculated that Gen. Mercier ought to replace Dreyfus, on Devil’s* Island, a statement that elicited cheers. The Chamber of Deputies, by 473 votes to 42, approved the motion for the reinstatement of Dreyfus, and by 477 to 27 confirmed the promotion of Colonel Picquart, but rejected M. Pres-' sense’s motion for the dismissal of the officers who committed the forgeries. The Chamber also largely approved the motion rendering homage to the authors of the Dreyfus revision trial, denouncing the authors of the conspiracy and expressing its confidence in the Government to execute the necessary penal measures.
