The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, JULY 14, 1906. THE RUSSIAN TROUBLE.
IT would appear that there will be no end to the Russian trouble, and with such slaughter of humanity as is reported daily by cable, the very marrow in the bones of the outside world must border on freezing point at the thoughts of such barbarism. It may not be wise for outside nations to interfere with the administration of Russia’s internal affairs, but certainly the charge so often laid that her governing powers are weak seem to be well sustained. More’s the pity ! To think that in an alleged Christian community such disorder, slaughter,—nay murder—should continue, is appalling in the extreme, - and it seems to us, in the lace of death statistics, a pity that there is no authority given the Powers to intervene even in the jurisdiction of a single nation’s internal affairs. To go to war with different nations is certainly bad enough, but to find such bloodshed amongst oneselves as is incessantly reported of the Russian people is not within Scriptural Christian meaning, and the sooner its termination is recorded so much sooner will the Russian nation rise in the esteem of the outside world. There can be only one cause : Weak Government ! Let us hope for a change and that shortly.
