The Poplar Paupers.
DISGRACEFUL EXTRAVAGANCE. London, July 3. The enquiry regarding the alleged -extravagance in Poplar Workhouse showed that the paupers of the farm colony at Laindon were allowed three meat meals drily. Much more expensive tea than the House of Commons used was supplied to the inmates. Their recreation included a weekend trip to. London with their fares paid and pocket money which they were allowed to spend in hotels.
