TUESDAY, JULY 10, 1906. BOROUGH FINANCE.
XT would appear that Borough finance is not too healthy, and Councillors will have to act judiciously in expending the already overdrawn money if we are to keep our heads above the financial margin. In his remarks accompanying the report at last night’s. Council meeting, the Borough Treasurer drew attention to the fact that we have already spent during the past three months streets and drains, which is ibs 3d more than we spent upon the same work during the whole of the previous year, so the Council wfll have to be careful when allocating money from the general fund. At last night’s meeting Councillors seemed moved when they realised funds were low. Of course, we would be sorry to note that any progressive ideas are to be dropped by members of the civic body, and while warning Councillors to be careful with general fund expenditure, we would still urge them to promote the Borough’s progress by establishing much needed reproductive works in our midst.
