HUIA (31) v. SANDON (o). The senior contest at the raC«= course on Saturday last is worthy of very little criticism. It was purely and simply a runaway, Huia winning by 31 to nil, without being asked to exert themselves in the least How the spectators managed to see the contest , out is a puzzle unless it was in the hope of guaging what Huia may be capable of. A striking feature of the game was two brilliant potted goals by Davey Tatana, at difficult angles. If he is in such good kicking form next Saturday, Manawatu will need to give him no chances. The Huia backs just did what they liked. Dunn had ■ nly to get hold of the ball, and round the Huia rearguard circuit the leather went repeatedly till score after score was registered with ridiculous ease. In justice to Huimai, it should be said the team was composed of many substitutes. As the game wore on, many of these started leaving the field, and when the whistle called time, there were few more than half their team on the field. Mr Sutherland refereed, and Messrs J. McDonald and J. Williams acted as touch judges.

NOTES. It is quite probable Sandon and Huia juniors will re-play their first round match at Foxton next Saturday. Messrs P. O’Dea, Roa Larken, and E. Sutherland have picked the following team to play at Palmerston next Saturday against the Manawatu reps :—Full-back, M. Royal ; three - quarters, Carroll, Tatana (centre), Scott; five-eight, Wiuiata; half, Smith ; forwards, Richardson and R. Newth (wings), Desmond, Jeffries, Marshall, Pete Larkin, Shadbolt, Joe, McNae. Emergencies: Tua Napier, J. Dunn, Cameron (backs), Sanson, S. Wright (forwards). Any of the above players who cannot attend are requested to notify the secretary at once. The team are to provide themselves with white knickers, the blue and black rep. guernseys being provided by the Union. Tiny McNae is captain of the reps., while Davey Tatana is second in command. / The secretary was appointed to manage the Foxton team at Palmerston next Saturday. With three drop-kicks like Davey Tatana, Carroll, and Winiata doing battle for Foxton, it is quite possible a goal or two may be recorded next Saturday. The Foxton reps should prove a fair combination in the backs, while the forwards are all good workers, though they may be on .the light side collectively. There are four Sandon, four Huia, three Awahou, two Oroua Bridge, and two Wanderers in the rep. team. Sandon have appealed to the Manawatu Rugby Union against the decision of the Sub Union in awarding the junior match to Albion last week. Position in Championsips, Senior.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE meeting.

An emergency meeting of short duration was held by the Management Committee of Sub-Union at Laing’s Hotel on Saturday night, Mr H. Austin presiding. The business was mainly to appoint Mr P. O’Dea to the Selection Committee in place of Mr J. A’Court who is laid up at present. The above course was adopted. Acting on the suggestion of Sandon delegates by telephone, the Management Committee decided to recommend to the Manawatu Rugby authorities that Mr Sutherland be appointed referee in the rep. contest, Manawatu v. Foxton.
