Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, JUNE 19, 1906. TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
The; agitation of the School Committee to have technical classes an accomplished fact in Foxton is a move in the right direction, and should be fostered and aided by all citizens who desire that the education status of our youth should improve. A public meeting is called for Monday next to consider ways and means, and we trust a bumper attendance will be recorded, and the comparatively small amount required made provision for without demur. We understand the classes are proposed to be held in the old schoolhouse, and this fact should be relished, as we will not have the trouble and expense of erecting a suitable building. According to estimates, we understand about £ i2o is required as initial expenditure, and as this amount is to be subsidised by the Board we should have no difficulty in raising the necessary bullion to raise the education standard of the present generation. The Mayor and Councillors, together with the school committee, will be on the platform next Monday evening, when the whole matter will be fully explained. We trust for a full public meeting, and good results.
