Sir Edward Clarke Resigns

Sir Edward Clarke has applied or the Chiltern Hundreds. He has informed the electors that he retired because he was warned by his doctors that -he could only continue his political career at serious risk to his health.
The Madrid Tragedy.
Madrid, June 7
Nakeno (the arrested editor) id mils that Moral came to .his office on the afternoon of the explosion, and, after binding him to secrecy informed him that he had hist thrown a bomb. He believed the King was untouched, but that there were other victims. He asked to be hidden. Nakeno induced a friend to shelter Moral for the night on the plea that he was a persecuted journalist, who feared irrest on account of the attempt m the King. Moral left next noruing.
Nakeno in his statement personally deprecated the attempted assassination but said it was impossible to betray one who had :onfidcd in him. He acted in iccordance with his convictions, aot because he sympathised with Moral’s ideas which hehadalwaj'S strongly opposed. The explanation created a profound sensation in Madrid. June 8. The judicial investigation elicited that Nakeno induced Mata, a notorious revolutionary, to provide Moral with a room and.change of Nothing. The judge ordered the arrest of the staff of Nakeno’s office as accomplices.
Several persons in Barcelona and Madrid were aware of the ■alot and were co-operating with Moral.
