Foxton Chamber of Com merce.
The Foxton Chamber of Commerce advertise.their annual meeting for Monday next, the 28th May, for the purposeofsubmitting the annual report and balance sheet of the Council, election o< officers, and transacting any other business which may be required.
This institution has now completed the first year of its existence, and during that time has been working quietly but energetically to secure many needed improvements to the town, foremost amongst which may be mentioned the extension of the wharf, and the conservation of the river banks and channel. Although the institution has been working with a persistence and energy far in excess of what might be supposed from its unobtrusiveness, the amount of success which it has attained, owing to the laxity of the Government Departments which it has been repeatedly pressing and requisitioning for one thing and another, is not yet very pronounced, but it is hoped that members of the Chamber, both existing and intending members, will roll up in force and show by their appreciation of the Couticirs labours for the benefit of the township during the year that the executive has behind it an energetic body of members determined not to be discouraged in their endeavours to keep the wants of the township before (he proper authorities. It is hoped that the public will recognise the usefulness of the institution by showing a genuine interest in its efforts to promote the welfare of the township, and thus strengthen the hands of the new Council in carrying on the work which has been begun by the old.
