The Manawatu Union are re-
ported by the Standard to “have aecided to inform the Foxton Executive that unless the request regarding finances is at once complied with stringent measures will be taken to deal with the matter. ’ ’ This paragraph reads rather abrupt, and is not altogether decisive, so in order to clear up any misunderstanding, it would perhaps be as well to put the matter clearly before football enthusiasts. We take it that the motion of the Manawatu Union refers solely to the ■£s bonus grant voted secretary.
The-.facts are that at the annual meeting of the Foxton section, a credit balance of ,£l3 2s was reported, in due course to be banded over to Manawatu Union. Of this amount, the Foxton Executive decided to vote ,£5 as a bonus to their secretary. Then the Manawatu Union refused to sanction this latter grant, on the grounds of professionalism, the secretary being a member of the referees' association. Then the Foxton Union decided to vote the grant in the shape of a trophy, and accprdingly the correct balance (less the £5 vote) was forwarded to Manawatu Union. The latter strongly deprecated the action of the Foxton section in retaining same, and demanded the immediate return of the ,£5. Since that time, there have been two meetings of the Foxton sub-union, but ■either were considered representative enough to deal with the matter, and discussion has been held over till to-night’s meeting* when the different Club delegates will, attempt to define their position. By the way, the meeting to-pight is an important one in other respects, and all delegates should attend. Albions defeated Awahou at the racecoursee yesterday afternoon by : xi points to six. Mr R. Grace refereed.
Huia certainly deserve to be successful in Club contests. They have arranged bi-weekly contests (senior, against junior) at Moutoa and Porotawhuo, for practise purposes, The first of these took pla.Ce yesterday at Porotawhao When the seniors proved victorious by 15 points to 3. Mr Keriona refereed.
There is likely to be a good crowd to witness the SandonHuia fixture on the racecourse on Saturday. Awahou practise to-night at the Public Hall. It is said they have lately secured the services of a new three-quarter Bailey by name.
Talk about the sporting instinct ! How is this :—A wellknown sport is forwarding a ton of chaff to Foxton for the use of footballers who have to ride gee gee into town to attend football matches. Well done, Billy. Billy Walden has been appointed captain of the Huia juniors, and may be seen doing long walks at all times on the Montoa road, just to get into trim for coming contests.
The following will represent Awahou in their match against Oroua Bridge : —J. Reid, Saville, Robinson (2), J. Joe, \V. Robinson, Jeffries. Shea Shea, S. Wright, Williams, Brown, J. Coley, Shadbolt. Eraer., Bell.
