A Popular Wedding.

DUNN—AHERN.

Foxtou townspeople generally should long remember yesterday as a day on which the hospitality of Mr and Mrs A. W. Reeve was freely accepted by one and all. It was to mark the occasion of the wedding of Miss Julia Ahern (only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Ahern, of the Avenue, Foxton) to Albert Dunn, third sou of Mrs A. W. Reeve, and right royally Mr and Mrs Reeve entertained their guests.

The marriage ceremony took place at St. Mary’s Church at one o’clock, the Church being well filled with friends of the popular young couple. The bride, who was given away by her father (Mr J. Ahern) looked charming, dressed in cream crepe de chine, white silk and chiffon trimmings, with the usual orthodox veil and orange blossoms, and carrying a beautiful shower bouquet. She also wore a beautiful tussock gold brooch (gift ot the bridegroom) and a beautiful gold bangle (gift of bridegroom’s mother.) There were four bridesmaids—Misses Kate Spelman (chief) and Bertha Dudson wearing white silk with hats to match. Misses Elsie and Evelyn Reeve, younger step-sisters of the bridegroom, looked pretty in pink voile, with white silk hats. All bridesmaids carried white shower bouquets. Messrs J. Dunn (best man) and G. Dunn (groomsman), brothers of the bridegroom, carried 'out their duties efficiently. Mrs Reeve, the bridegroom’s mother, was dressed in black silk, whilst the bride’s mother (Mrs Ahern) wore black, with heliotrope trimmings. The marriage ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Schaefer, of Otaki. Each of the bridesmaids wore handsome gold brooches, gifts of the bridegroom, while the bridegroom was wearing a gold albert, gift of his step-father. The wedding presents received by the young couple, as displayed at the residence of the bridegroom’s parents, were useful and costly, but are too numerous to particularize.

Immediate]}' following the marriage! an adjournment was made to the residence ofthe bridegroom’s parents, where over 100 guests were received and seated in a large marquee specially brought from Palmerston for the occasion. Here the wedding breakfast was partaken of. Noticeable amongst those present were His Worship the Mayor (G. A, Simpson, Esq.), ■ the lady Mayoress, Borough Councillors, and all our leading business people. After full justice had been done to the many good things despatched by a full complement of waiters, the toast of the “ Bride and Bridegroom ” was duly honoured, and responded to by the Bridegroom. Then followed the following toasts: —“The Bridesmaids,” by Mr Alt'. Fraser (Town Clerk), response by Mr J. Dunn ; “ The Eadies,” by Cr Shadbolt, response by Mr E. Hill; “The Visitors,” by Mr J. T. Eevett, response by Cr Baker; “The Brides’ Parents,” by Mr C, Barnard, response by Mr E. E. Reade (for the parents); ‘ ‘ Host and Hostess,” by the Mayor, response by Mr A. W. Reeve; “ The Gentlemen,” by Mrs Simpson, response by Mr Eevett (who spoke for Mrs Cleraett), and Mrs Barnard ; “ The Caterers,” by Mr Wright, response by Mr Mark Perreau ; “The Press,” by Mr E. E. Eeade, response by Mr E. G. Sutherland (Herald). The photographer was also toasted, i and replied to by Mr J. A, Starck,

With the closing of these toasts, the wedding group and guests were photographed on the lawn, and all were cordially invited by ivfr and Mrs Reeve to attend the * dance given in the Public Hall tip ir*evening. With their numerous friends, the “ Manawatu Herald ” extend their best wishes to the newly married couple, in the hope that their future life will be all joy and prosperity. IN THE .EVENING. Although rain set in between seven and eight o’clock in the evening, still the thoughtfulness of Mr and Mrs Reeve in arranging for a coach to convey their di£ ferent guests to the dance, enabled a large crowd to present themselves at the Public Hall.

Dancing commenced with the Grand March, and ever after the floor was packed with lovers of the light fantastic, who enjoyed immensely the music provided by Mr Berthold, pianist. The floor had been worked into good order, and the hall gaily decorated.

Supper arrangements were left in the hands of Mr Mark Perreau, and were of the best.

During the evening, vocal items were contributed by Messrs Quick, Devlin and Sutherland, their accompaniments being in the able hands of Miss May Laing, Mrs F. Walls, and Mr Quick. An extra waltz was played by Mrs Walls.

The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Messrs J, and G. Dunn and C. Pollard.

The gathering broke up in the early hours of the morning, all having given their testimony to the lavish hospitality by Mr and Mrs A. W. Reeve,
