MR SIMPSON RETURNED.
Although there were 493 votes on the roll, but 271 were recorded at the Mayoral election yesterday. As the day wore on, supporters of the different candidates seemed to take keen interest in the proceedings, and when the figures were called last evening, there was a fair crowd present. Figures: — Simpson, G. A. ... 132 Gray, G. A 73 Baker, S. H 57 Informal 9 Total ... ... ... 271 The different candidates returned thanks for the support accorded them, and the party’ dispersed, after cheers were exchanged. Mr Alf. Fraser (returning officer) carried out his duties in an efficient manner, ably assisted by Mr H. Alzdorf as poll clerk.
