Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, MAY 8, 1906. T HE MAYORAL CHAIR.

Matters Mayoral in Foxton have taken a lively turn, and we may record the fact that exceptionally heavy polling takes place on Friday next. Competition is likely to be keen, and it is to be hoped the election may be fought out without enmity of any sort arising. All three candidates have a strong following, though the opinion is vouchsafed and predicted that the appearance of a third candidate in the field may be responsible for the defeat of the only candidate who has previously held office in the capacity of Mayor. However, that remains to be seen, and without prejudice at all, we urge upon electors the necessity of taking an interest in your own affairs, and trust every vote may be recorded to the candidate who is the most suitable person, and who will fill the responsible office of Mayor with most success. Both Messrs Baker and Simpson address burgesses to-morrow evening at the Masonic Hall, and it seems a pity the third candidate does not elect to follow the same course. However, things municipally are the main topic at present, and we trust the meeting to-morrow night will be largely attended, and that no ill-feeling will arise as a result.
