Foxton State School Sports.

These sports, which had been postponed several times owing to unfavourable weather, were held yesterday in Victoria Park under very favourable conditions, the weather being simply perfect, A long and admirable programme of events bad been carefully prepared on the lines of previous years, all details, distances, handicaps, etc., having been fully arranged under the supervision of Mr Stewart and Mr Furrie, and the result of their experience was manifest in the fact that so many events were ran off without a hitch in the record time of less than five hours. In the absence of Mr Furrie, late First Assistant, whose interest in everything connected with the wel* fare and well-being of the school and scholars, was beyond all praise and characteristic of that excellent teacher, the duties of starter were admirably carried out by Mr Holland, R.T., who proved himself a veritable expert at the game, his manner of dealing with knotty points receiving unstinted and well-merited praise. During the day refreshments were liberally dispensed to all and sundry on the ground by a number of ladies under the direction of Mrs Frankland; and cases of oranges, tins q{ lollies, etc., supplied in great abundance by generous towns* people, were distributed and scrambled for with great gusto. At the close of the proceedings hearty cheers were given by the children for the ladies who had so kindly ministered to their comfort and enjoyment, the donors of sweets, apples, oranges, and other good things, and lastly for the teachers.

Several races, which had to be omitted, are to be run off this afternoon in the school ground. On the whole we’are justified in saying that these sports were admirably conducted from be* ginning to end, and that some older clubs might well take a lesson in management from the Foxton State School. It was a real children’s day, and the children enjoyed it to the utmost May there j be many such in connection with the Foxton School, and may we be there to seel
