Manawatu County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held on Wednesday. There were present:—Crs Wilson (chairman), Hammond, Dalton, Barber, McKenzie, Masters and Kendall# CORRESPONDENCE. From the Palmerston Hospital Board, stating this Council’s share of maintenance of the Infections Diseases Hospital was £l6 13s 6d, being 10 per cent, on £166 14s 6d. From the same, stating a levy of 4s lid in the had been made for general hospital and charitable aid purposes, and that the amount payable by this Council was 8s 4d, From Rangitikei Comity Council, agreeing to pay £5 towards repairs of Scott’s Ferry punt.— N ecessary work to bq done at cost not exceeding 1 ' REPORTS. The Treasurer reported the Bank balances as follows .'“General account, dr., 4s xrd; Doan account, cr., 15s nd; nett debit balance, 9s. Riding accounts : —Sandon, dr., ,£4l 9s xxd; Mt. Stewart, dr., ,£9965 lid ; Waitohi, cr., is 9d ; Rongotea, dr., 3s 8d; Carnarvon, dr., £ 25 8s 2d ; Kawa Kawa, dr., ,£ll2 3s xod; Awahou, cr*. 19s 4d. The Bank overdraft on March 31, 1905, was 1906, 4s 1 id, representing a saving of 5s 4d on the year. During the past year, up to March 31st, 1906, the granary earned in storage charges is 6d. Expenses totalled £B 13s, including interest and sinking fund £6 3s 6d, insurance and working expenses £2 9s 6d, leaving a credit of 8s 6d. Owing to the remunerative price of sheep th 1 area of grain grown in the district was very much reduced, and as the price was satisfactory most farmers preferred to sell soon after threshing, therefore all the available space in the granary was not taken up. The Tramway Manager reported that the credit balance for the month’s working was is 3d. The financial result of the tramway for the year ending March 31st, was as follows:—Receipts, 7s 4d ; expenditure, 13s xod ; leaving a credit balance of ,£ll6 13s 6d, to which must be added amount expended in sleepers £53 13s 4d, two M wag- . gons £iSo, and tarpaulins ,£2O, total £253 13s 4d, or equal to a credit balance of £370 6s lod. The shrinkage in receipts was mainly due to the comparatively small quantity of mental carried. Messrs Duthie and Co.’s tender of £8 ids 9d for 50 tons of 4oib steel rails had been accepted. The extra rails will enable the line to ■* be laid within twenty chains of the top of the grade at Cameron’s Hill and the manager suggested it would be best to finally deal with the cutting when the rails were laid. rate;;. amount collected totalled ,£5636 2s, leaving ,£164 16s in atrea, of which 5s 5d had been paid ** since March 31st. The engineer reported on the work completed during the mouth and still in hand, all of it being of the ordinary routine character. During the month J. Walden, roadman, Awahou Riding, resigned, and W. Oitkins was appointed in his place. Pennyroyal is spreading in the country, aim unless steps are taken to prevent its spread it will become a serious pest. It was decided to give effect to a request from settlers interested that should lie borrowed to metal 50 chains of Pike’s Road.
