Foxton Borough Council.
The ordinary meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present —His Worship the Mayor (B. G. Gower Esq.), Crs Coley, Gray, Shadbolt, Moore, Franklaud and Baker. The minutes of the previous ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed, REPORTS. The Treasurer reported that the sum of had been paid into the District Fund Account since last monthly meeting, and that the Public balance at the Bank stood that day at ,£338 12s 6d. The Poundkeeper reported that x 1 ,horses and 31 head of cattle had been impounded during the month. The Borough overseer reported on works done, and suggested that the cleaming of drains be continued, and ruts in Johnston street filled in.
The Inspector of Nuisances reported that he had occasion to order several back yards to be cleaned, but now stated the borough was in a clean and sanitary state. The reports were adopted, and accounts as read passed. general. Mr William Collins waited on the Council with reference to the contractors at Main street Bridge cutting into his laud, without authority. The Council should at least asked consent. —Decided that the Council meet Mr Collins on the spot in the morning. Mr Johnston wrote re willows overhanging on Wirokino road. Decided to refer Mr Johnston to Manawatu County Council, as the place mentioned was out of the Borough. Much correspondence was read from the Main street concrete contractor, Borough Clerk, and engineer (Mr Armstrong) relative to traffic preventing contractors from doing work satisfactory. The contractor, at one stage, wished to leave the contract, but it was explained that the difficulty had evidently been overcome as the work of construction was still going on. Mr F. Gall again wrote asking for fences atSpelman’s property to be placed in repair.—Resolved to advise Mr Gall to approach his neighbours in regard to fence, as Council has nothing to do with the matter.
Mr Geo. Nye wrote resigning from a seat on the Council owing to ill-health.—Resolved, That the resignation be received with regret and that the Clerk be instructed to write to Mr Nye and convey sympathy. . The Secretary Palmerston North Hospital Board wrote stating that the Foxton Borough Council’s share of coats for Infections Diseases Ward would be £$ 6s Bd.
Mr Haack wrote re an accident! —Decided that clerk write Mr Haack to attend to the matter.
The District Railway Manager wrote asking whether Council stillwanted property for the purpose of water site.—Decided to write stating we are still considering the matter, and that we are not willing to withdraw our report for a site 011 the railway propertynear the windmill.
Or Moore proposed, and Cf Frankland seconded, That Council take necessary steps to have one or more trig stations fixed in the borough for its purpose of facilitating survey, after first making the necessary inquiry as to cost, etc. —A little discussion took place over this matter, after which the motion was negatived. Cost of erection seemed to raise most objection, whilst others were of opinion Mount Robinson was sufficient for all survey work. Cr Gray brought up the matter of building a public morgue.— After little discussion, it was decided that Council call for tenders for a building to be built in the Pound Reserve and to be used as a public morgue.
Mr Moore wrote on behalf of a resident, asking for a culvert iear the Chinaman’s garden. — The request was granted. The Council rose about 9.30 p.m.
