Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, APRIL 7. 1906. WEDNESDAY’S POLL.
The poll to be taken on Wednesday next for the purpose of borrowing /1000 to erect new Council Chambers should have the hearty support of every ratepayer who has the good of the town at heart. Every ratepayer in the Borough has the privilege to vote, and it behoves all to exercise that privilege. The amount to be voted for is sufficient to erect a wooden building, and, if at the public meeting to be called (in the event of the loan being carried) ratepayers prefer to see a brick building erected, then we shall have to take a further poll for sufficient money to complete the structure. Pe sonally, we would prefer to see a brick building, but that is not the point at issue on Wednesday. We trust ratepayers shall record a large majority in favour of the loan asked for, as rents already promised for offices in the proposed building and present Chambers, will more than cover the interest required on the loan, and leave a yearly balance for the sinking fund. We conclude by leaving the matter to the common sense of ratepayers.
