Foxton School Committee
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Foxton School Committee was held last evening in the Council Chambers, there being present: Mesdames Haywood and Frank* land, Messrs S. Baker (chairman), Betty, Coley, Gray, and Frankland (secretary). The minutes as read were confirmed.
Proposed by Mr Baker, seconded by Mr Betty, that the secretary write to Mr Clarkson pointing out the committee’s dissatisfaction with the maps supplied, and asking if an error has been made. Carried.
It was resolved that ten guineas be appropriated towards cost of piano for the schoolhouse, that Mrs Haywood be authorised to collect the balance of money requited and that Mesdames Haywood and Frankland be appointed to select same, the cost to be about j&o. Messrs Coley and Gray having expressed the view that the headmaster’s attendance had better not be required at committee meetings, it was resolved that the question be held over for the new committee.
Correspondence was read, including a letter of resignation from Mr Furrie.—lt was decided to write Board stating that we must have a new teacher to replace Mr Furrie,
It was resolved that Mr Varney be asked to visit school and confer as to establishment of technical classes.
Mr H. Coley forwarded a letter of complain. A letter from the headmaster to Mr Coley was also read, the headmaster being asked to withdraw while discussion eventuated.
Proposed by Mr Betty seconded by Mrs Haywood, that a full meet-ing-be called for Tuesday next to consider the subject matter of Mr H. Coley’s letter, that Mr H. Coley apd the headmaster be asked to attend, also Mr Coley’s boy. All accounts as submitted were passed for payment, and the meeting closed.
