Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, APRIL 3, 1906. FOXTON FOOTBALL.

Rugby football, conducted on good lines, is a manly sport, and should be fostered by all lovers of athletics. Unfortunately, it appears that Foxton football is destined to have but a short reign, and ere the wick flickers out altogether, we would urge upon those of that turn of mind to form a new club and, at least, attempt opposition to the redoubtable Awahou’s, who certainly have the largest share of popular favour. To think that the Old Boys Club could not muster a meeting on Saturday last bespeaks much. Many of their players of last season vow they have donned the guernsey for the last time, and these arc not backward at giving their reasons. Be that as it may, we would say, let the ill-feeling of the two previous seasons die out altogether, and while you are at it, perhaps it would be as well to bury the hatchet altogether, and allow the Old Boys Club to die out also. Make a clean sweep of it by forming a new club, and dispense with the blue and black guernseys (which seem to carry prejudice). Bring players of every class into your ranks, and perhaps it may not be futile to expect, at any rate, a fair share of public favour. If another club is not formed in Foxton, it either means that Awahou will have to place two teams in the field, or there will be uo competition. Those who love the good old game would do well to club together and try and form a new team. As it is, several-Old Boys players vow they will not play for Awahou, nor can they form a team of their own. This should not be ! Some may have cause to speak thus, but we would say, for the sake of sport, give the game another season, when we may possibly be induced to express an opinion whether the prospects for Rugby in the vicinity are good or otherwise,
