Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, MARCH 20, 1906. GOOD LIGHTING!

Good lighting is a necessity, and it is with pleasure we note Messrs Andrews and Manthel, of Wellington, have placed proposals before our Council providing for the efficient lighting of Foxton, which may possibly come within our means. A special meeting of the Council is called for to-morrow night to consider the scheme and estimates submitted, and it is to be hoped some good may result. We understand the terms submitted are reasonable, and, even if we have to. borrow, let us do so, rather than be further troubled With the kerosene oil eyesores that attempt unsuccessfully to light up our street. We notice that Rongotea have lately borrowed a further ,£7OO so that they may have the electric light in their homes. This fact speaks for itself, and it certainly looks as if a borrowing policy proved wise in the case of Rongotea. We understand the cost of working Messrs Andrews and Manthel’s plant is ridiculously cheap, and, that being so, we may judiciously curtail further reference by remarking “ Now or Never! ”
