.Obituary George Coppiu, father of the Australian stage, aged 87. At the meeting to confirm the A.M.P. ballot, there were 114,056 for the extension of the Society’s operations to London and 45,048 against. In the special semi-final for the Sydney Thousand Plunkett (a New ’Zealander) sprinted in his heat and got a big break on the field as the last lap was entered on, but he tired in the last hundred yards and was just beaten out of third place.
