Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, MARCH 13, 1906. AGAIN!

It is to be hoped the pleasant weather conditions prevailing at time of writing continues throughout the visit of the Premier to Foxton this afternoon, so that arrangements made to drive the Hon. gentleman to Manawatu Heads will not be upset. We certainly feel that the construction of such a railway as suggested would not only prove a boon to thousands of district and upcountry residents, but would also prove a profitable source of revenue to the Railway Department. The Premier cannot but be impressed with our beach as the makings of a holiday resort second to none in the colony, and we feel sure visitors at the banquet this evening will use solid argument in favour of the construction of this important line. There is no apparent reason why the desires of residents of Palmerston, Feilding, Marton, Pahiatua, Danuevirke and elsewhere should not be satisfied, and we trust that sufficient pressure will be bronght to bear during to-day’s proceedings to convince the Premier that to favour the placing of a sum of money on the Estimates for the line mentioned would be wise. The line cannot fail to be interest bearing and reproductive. The Chamber of Commerce will doubtless take the Right Plon. Mr Seddon over the wharves, and, what with the numerously signed petition, possibly the Premier may favour an extension to our wharf. At every spring tide coaling boats are pushed for berthing space, and the matter can only be rectified by additional accommodation space. The wants of the flaxmilling industry generally will doubtless be conveyed to the Premier by responsible speakers at to-night’s gathering, and we trust that the hon. gentleman may realise that the share of public expenditure necessary to meet requirements will not only benefit Foxton itself but the district generally.
