Chamber of Commerce.
A considerable amount of busl* ness was transacted by the Foxton Chamber of Commerce at monthly meeting yesterday. An invitation by the Foxtoa School Committee to co-operate in the ceremony of opening the new -* school was considere'd at some length. It was finally! resolved that if it should be found possible , on the Premier’s arrival a deputation from the Chamber should wait upon him to urge the three important requirements of Wharf Extension, the formation of' a Harbour Board, and the carrying out of the proposed Heads railway. It was further resolved that these matters should also be brought under the Premier’s notice at the banquet tendered to Mr Stevens, M.H.R., at which the Premier is to be present. Correspondence from and to the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce in connection with the recent railway conference was also read, and Mr Frankland, who had attended the conference as a representative from the Foxton Cham* * ber, reported at some length the business transacted at the conference, the object of which had been to secure a general improvement in the railway service in the Manawatu, Wairarapa and adjacent districts. The concluding resolution at the conference embodied an arrangement that the members of the conference Should be a deputation to wait upon the Premier and the Minister for Public Works in Wellington on a date to be subsequently fixed. _ A number of other subjects which bad been tabulated by the Foxton Chamber to be discussed at the conference ,v«re postponed for a future meet” ing at Palmerston to be called for the special purpose of considering then them. , A quantity of correspondence •with Mr Stevens, M.H.R., and the Minister for Marine was read md considered relating to forma* don of a Harbour Board and the receipts and expenditure in connection with the Foxton wharf* This being one of the matters to be brought before the Premier on his visit to Foxton no further action was taken beyond a resolution that Mr Stevens be written to thanking him for the trouble he had taken and that a statement, of receipts and expenditure which had been received by the Foxton Chamber from the Government ;ome time previously.and showing r much more satisfactory position than that disclosed in the return ;e:it to the Member, be submitted to Mr Stevens.
A circular from the Palmerston ■'forth Chamber asking the cooperation of the Foxton Chamber in securing exhibits from the Vlanawatu and adjacent districts for the Christchurch Exhibition ,vv; crasidcued, and it was ar'angel that the President, Mr oimnson, and also if possible the Vice-President, Mr Fraser, world attend a meeting to be held at Palmerston North on Thursday in :onnection with the matter.
