Capetown, March 4

Representatives of the Het Volk and the Progressive Parties met at General Botha’s house at Pretoria to discuss a compromise with a view to an immediate constitution for the Transvaal. It was suggested that the Ministry be composed equally of British and Dutch, the Premier to be elected by all sections. The negotiations proved abortive, the British refusing the Het Volk’s suggestions.
