State Insurance.
TERMS OF ADJUSTMENT.
The statement ’of the position between the State Fire Insurance Department and the private companies in a recent issue of the Times was not correct as regards re-insurance.
The companies have, as stated, agreed to co-insurance with the department, in modification of their policy during the past year, but they still refuse to transact any re-insurances. As, however, the General Manager of the State Department arranged for reinsurances tor his risks in London, this does not seriously affect the position. In other respects our statement of the position is confirmed. Mr W. Gill, Wellington manager of the Alliance Assurance Co., writes to us, pointing out this inaccuracy, and adding that he was not chairman of the council of the Fire Underwriters’ Association,' nor was he even present at la.‘t week’s conference, when the a!« t *radons were decided upon. —N.
