The Transvaal
representative GOVERNMENT.
Capetown, January 26
Dr Jameson, Premier of Cape Colony, at banquet at Capetown, said representative Government would be granted to the Transvaal in a few days, and responsible institutions would be in full swingin August. Orange River Colony, added the Premier, would receive a similar Constitution simultaneously. MEETING AT PRETORIA. Capetown, January 28.
At a meeting at Pretoria, attended by represent ‘'OS of fifty branches of the Association, it was decided, in view of the fact that the tvtintry is on the eve of responsible government, to uphold, as four cardinal principles of the constitution, one vote, one value, single member constituencies, equal electoral districts on the basis of voters, and automatic redistribution. The “Times” says;—lt appears the Trau&vaal will have responsible government without the transition stage of representative government.
