Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, JANUARY 27, 1906. ROPE WORKS FOR FOXTON.
Rumour of late is to the effect that we are shortly to have established in our midst an up-to-date rope works. The name of Mr Ross, who has been instrumental in establishing similar works in different parts of the colony, is mentioned as being connected with the project, and it is to be hoped such is the case. It is said local millers have signified their willingness to support the proposal to the extent of some thousands, and if such is true, their action is to be commended, and we are pleased to record the fact that at least the flaxmill owners have the interests of the town at heart. The establishment of such a form of industry will mean the employment of many experienced hands, and an increase in population, which must necessarily tend to the advancement of the district generally. It will mean that an increased amount of money will be put in circulation, and also act as a safeguard to our principal product, flax. May the talked-of rope works be an accomplished fact,. in Foxton, are the Heraud’s sentiments.
