Race Night Entertainments.
The attendance was fair at the Public Hall on first race night, while only a meagre audience appeared the concluding evening. The outside talent engaged was looked forward to the opening night to provide much aminement, and we certainly think the Andrews Brothers caught the public taste in sketch, song, and story. Mr J. Crabtree, baritone vocalist, caught on, md all his numbers were vociferously encored. Though Mr Frank Pent’s singing was weak, his dancing was loudly applauded, encores the second night being numerous. The coon songs provided by Taff Cooke were pleasing, “ The Big Brass Band,” the second evening, being especially good. The local talent ongagsd executed th.nnselves admirably, especially Miss Cissy Robinson, whose numbers included “The Passion Flower,” and “Why Did They Sell Killarney; ” Miss B tie Webb, “ Sweet Sixteen,” and “ When the Fields are White With Cotton ; ” Mrs Currie, that great Coon success “Phoebe;” Misses Ettio Webb and Lizzie Laing, “ Barney ” and “ The Rival Dolls"; Misses Httie Webb, Lizzie Laing, Bob Grace and Ted Sutherland, “ Cabo Walk.” Messrs Bob Grace and Lu Edwards provided comedian items, while Master Jimmy Currie figured in “Myßorouia BetL ” o effect. Andrews Bros sketches, “The Infernal Machine.” and “ Jones, the Smart Waiter ” created a lot of fun. Miss May Laing and Mr Archie MoMinn acted as pianists, in thsir us,ml capable manner. There seemed to be too much comedian song and gag the first night, which the management deleted the second evening. This change in the programme seemed to be nd'ched. Mr M. H. Walker kindly lent the chairs, whilst Mr J. A. Starck worked the limelight.
