NOTES. By “One in the Know.” Bonn is perhaps the safest guide to picking winners, and when I look through the acceptors in the Electric, I find many who have recently caught the judges eye. Amongst them is Sly van Tide, whom Dougal Thompson onlv recently bought for 500 guineas. This nag is said to be very fast but I prefer the chance of Contender, and these two may fight out the issue. Federation. Probability and Truce are others likely to be close up. In the Cup, I cannot get past Nonette, who pleased me greatly in the Rangitikei Cup. Submarine, Flamen, Capulet and Bourrasque must race well, while Ladylike is said to be something out of the ordinary, but I fancy Nonette will prove the master of them all. If Kremlin could only give us a glimpse of his old form, 9.8 Would not trouble him, but there
are some smart middle-markers
engaged, and from this division the winner may come. Captain Shannon (8.4) reads nicely. Every horse has accepted in the Hack Hurdles, and Apiti 10.13 appears to me to have the others safe. Cassiopea 9.13 is coming on, and may trouble Apiti, while Lion Heart and Dalky may be the best of the others. If reserved, Captain Shannon Should win the Herrington Welter, in which Flotilla and Ladylike appear to have good chances. This race may be Kuroki’s dart. In the Hack Welter, I will have nothing but Bonheur 9.9, though Makikihi 9.8, Barmaid 8.9, and Refine 9.4 are well treated. The acceptances for the meetine are unusually good, and good racing should result. Final selections will appear on Saturday. Judging by the amount of interest that is being taken in the annual meeting of the Foxton Racing Club this year, the fixture promises to be most successful despite the strong attraction offered by the Wellington Racing Club on the same day. Taking full advantage of the natural advantage , ,-eT the 'course, the Club has from year to year, effected improvements that are appreciated by everyone, owners, trainers, and * the public alike. During the past off-season the Club has spent fully /500 in improving the totalisator stand, and saddling paddock facilities, and visitors to the meet-
mg this year will, it is opined, have little to complain of. The committee has made excellent train arrangements for the meeting and only fine weather is needed to 'make it a pronounced success. — 1 Geraint ’ ’ in the Manawatu Standard.
