Manawatu County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the ManaWattt County Council was held on Wednesday* There were present Crs Wilson (chairman), Kendall, Masters, Dalton, McKenzie, W. Barber and Hammond. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Foxton Borough Council, forwarding details of proposed alterations in the boundaries of the borough. A portion proposed to be handed over to the control of the County contains a population of 150 people, 10 miles of streets and 3 miles of boundary roads. The rateable value totalled £2662, the general rnte 7s 6d. There were 5 miles of drains costing ,£37 los per annum. It was desired that the severed portion be made a special rating district. The general rate would require to be collected alike over the whole of the Awahou riding, including the severed portion. Objections to the proposed severance were received from Messrs W. Barber, Bailie Bros,, A. P. Easton, H. Claris, M. Edwards, J. Walden, J. A. Smith, Carter Bros,, and F. S. Easton, on various grounds, particularly cost of maintenance of roads, drains, etc., which it was contended would result in an increased rate on the Awahou riding ratepayers without corresponding benefit. It was decided after a desultory discussion that seeing that the Council had power to strike a separate rate over the portion proposed to be severed from tbe Foxton Borough this Council hereby withdraws its objection to the proposals made by the Foxton Borough Council for the alteration of its boundaries, provided that the Foxton Borough agrees to pay two-thirds the cost of maintenance of the boundary roads and that the cost of extra clerical work be charged to the portion taken over.
