Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, JANUARY 11, 1906. THE BEACH RAILWAY.
Each Summer season brings with it an increased number of visitors to the Foxton Beach. Even with the present difficult mode of travelling, Palmerstonians are taking up sections at the favourite seaside haunt and building residences thereon. This clearly proves the popularity of the resort. We can easily gauge the thousands that would visit our sea-shore if there were better means of transit,- and it behoves Foxtonians to do all in their power to attain that end, and thus look after their own interests. Some twelve months ago, the different Chambers of Commerce in the district took the matter up, but presumably through election matters, the affair has been allowed to drop. Now that we are likely to receive a visit from the Premier at no distant date we trust our local Chamber will arouse and do its duty. At least, they can make arrangements to take Mr Seddou over the proposed route, and we may trust that the resort will be seen at its best by him. There is no reason why a sum should not be placed on the Estimates sufficiently large in quantity to construct this line. That it would be a valuable asset we have no doubt. School excursionists all over the district would flock here, for there are few places in the colony that can boast of a beach like the Manawatu. It would be easily iccessible with such a Hue, and ■vhen it is for the good ol the community at large, why not aim at obtaining it. Eet us act!
