ORDINARY MEETING. >vThe ordinary meeting Foxton Boroiigh CouncTl last evening, ..there being present : His Worship the Mayor (B. G. Gower, Esq.), Crs Stiles, Baker, Coley, Gray, Shadbolt and Fran Inland.
The m inutes of the last ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. %
Reports,
The Borough Overseer reported on works completed, during the month, and also suggested That the Avenue Culvert be filled in as soon as possible, as residents in the Avenue Road are complaining of the traffic being stopped so long. That the willows over-hanging Johnston street, in front of Mrs Coley’s' be cut down ; also two willow trees over-hanging Jenks street, frouj private property, be trimmed ;/and pine trees overhanging Purcell street, in front of Mr Doyle’s, be trimmed. That about three yards of metal be put on the approach to Wirokino bridge, as the road is wearing away from planking. The Inspector of Nuisances reported : —During the past month I have given notice iti two cases to clean up back’yards, also to shopkeepers to clear off withered branches, etc., from Main street, used during Christmas and New Year. Some loads of rubbish (but nothing offensive to smell) have been deposited opposite the west entrance to Victoria Park. I have not yet been able to trace the offender. I declare the borough to be in a clean and sanitary state.

Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Coley, That in reference to; wires complained at on Target Reserve the Council authorise Crs Gray and Stiles to interview M J< ' Brewer about same.—Carried. ;
Proposed by Cr Coley, seconded by Cr Stiles, That in consideration of an additional fee of 5s the billiard rooms in the Borough i> r allowed to keep open from Morfc day, 22nd January, to Wednesda ? 24th, provided the Council ha ! power to grant the extensm 1 asked for.—Carried. . j , Proposed by Cr Stiles, secondeoi by Cr Coley, That the Borough Surveyor be instructed not to enforce the Building By-laws in the i matter of alterations (internal! only), where the same does not | exceed £25 in value ; and for ex-1 ternal alterations where the sum does not exceed £5. —Carried. Proposed by Cr Stiles, seconded by Cr Coley, That tne Conned offer Mr Jas. King the sum of £, to cut and cart hay away from the j cemetery.—Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Baker, That the owners of land fronting the Wirokino road be asked to cut dowij the willows on their frontages.--Car-ried. . ■’
The Mayor, proposed, and Cr ,-Baker seconded, That a special meeting of the Council be held on Wednesday, 17th January, to fix the day for weekly half-holiday in the Borough.—Carried.
