Accidents and Fatalaties.

A woman named Mrs P. Jorgenson, of Mauriceville, jumped from a train at Terrace End yesterday and received severe injuries to her knee and head. It is said she found she was in the wrong trainand jumped off with the above result.

A jockey named Moran received a fall from Alleta at Reefton race* and broke his collarbone. An infuriated bull at Carterton attacked a man named Davies, who was armed with a pitchfork. Davies kept the bull at bay until his son came and rendered assistance, The Bull then turned on the son, and eventually another son brought a rifle, the shot from which struck the animal, but not vitally. However, the enraged animal turned and fled. A serious assault occurred in His Lordship’* Hotel, Christchurch, on Saturday night. A man went in*o the bar accosted another man named William Williams, and asked him to shout. Williams refused, and Prendergast thereupon went outside for the alleged purpose of sharpening his knife on a block of concrete. He re-entered the bar, went up to Williams and stabbed him in the region of the heart. The blade penetrated the clothing but struck a rib and glanced off, otherwise it would have pierced heart. Prendergast was arrested, and will be charged with wounding with intent.

At' the Nelson sports Pool a competitor in hundred yards race, had passed the tape when his thigh snapped. A collection on the ground realised twenty guineas for his benefit.

Kieran, the Australian swimmer who died last week, was buried at Gore Hill Cemetery, Sydney, on Boxing Day. There was an imposing cortege. Great crowds lined the route and at the cemetery paid a last tribute to the young champion. At Hokitika on Friday evening Mr C. H. Romanes, civil engineer who arrived from Reefton the same day was seen by three persons to divest himself of his coat and walk deliberately into the sea a few miles north of the town. The body was found on the beach the next morning.
