POUTU SPORTS.
By “ One in the Know.” The Poutu Sports at Shannon Ferry on Monday next (Xmas Day) are likely to bo productive of much sport, and are sure to be largely patronised. Mr Johnston gives notice that he runs a special coach to the scene of operations. Most of the nags engaged at the meeting haye arrived, including Maniapoto, Achilles, Pretty Polly, and Nootuiform. Some of the best horse men in the land are expected by the Ascot Express. “Ring-ins ” are sure to be numerous, and the Maori stewards are bound to be kept busy deciding protests. The -summer costumes to be worn by the village maidens have been Specially imported from Regent street, and, in fact, Moutoa is to have a field day. By the way, Billy Walden’s White Legs is reported the best ot good things for the Hurdles. Other Speedy parcels ofhorseflesh possessing winning chances are: Shady’s Billy, in the Bracelet; Andreason’s Boney Mary, m the Guineas ; and the Mana watu Herald Piebald, in the Maiden.
-The Cup is pretty open, though Mr Stewart’s Rocket and Stead’s Nightfall should run first and second. Barnett and Gi'ant, the leading Colonial metal - licians, have bought the betting rights, and the Wanganui Garrison Band play selections on the lawn. There will be plenty of roast duck to eat when you feel hungry, also shark and other vegetables. A special posse of police will attend in anticipation of a riot. The public can rely on spending a plesant day, f. >r it is Christmas time, and there is plenty of fun in store.
THE MANAWATU MEETING. There should be a record crowd at Awapuni on Tuesday next to witness the Manawatu races. Special trains run from Foxton, and this end of the district is bound to be largely represented. “ One in the Know ” advises those in doubt to pin their faith in the following equines the first day Hack Hurdles—Lull i, South Star 2. Maiden—Probability i. Manawatu Cup—Auratus i, Savoury a, Lyrist 3. Handicap Hurdles—Repulse 1, Miss King 2, Valima 3. Hack Handicap Bourrasque 1, Maui 2, Red Cross 3. Awapuni Handicap—Petticoat i, Sir Tristram 2, Solution 3. Nursery—Medallist or Munjista. Grandstand. —Black Reynard (it received) or Exmoor.
FEILDING ATHLETIC CLUB.
On Boxing Day, those who care not for horse racing can journey on to Feilding, where the annual athletic {nesting is to be held. Several Foxton competitors are engaged, and we trust they may win some of the prizemoney.
