Foxton School Committee.

The Foxton School Committee met last evening, when there were present —Mrs Haywood, Rev. Wilson (in the chair), Messrs Betty, Coley, Gray, and Frankland (secretary.) The headmaster’s report was read.

Mrs Frankland £lO 10s 6d, Mr Coley, 13s 3d, and Mr Gray £2 las 6d, handed in their amounts sis Collections towards the schoolchildren’s treat.

The matter of distributing schoolprizes on Friday (to-morrow) was left to the chairman and headmaster to arrange. The secretary reported making arrangements for, the carriage of school children to Wanganui Exhibition next Monday, and his action in the matter was confirmed. The use of the old school came in for discussion, the secretarymentioning that Mr Eevett had approached him that morning with a view of having same used as a technical school, Mr Eevett wished to know whether a numerously signed petition Would have any effect on the Board granting same. —The headmaster said the Board would likely want to know the minimum number of pupils likely to attend.™ The chairman thought it would be best to petition for the establishment of a District High School with two or three technical subjects taught in it—The matter was ultimately held over till next meeting, all available information to be collected in the meanwhile. The accounts were submitted, and a discussion arose over two ot same. However, all ordinary accounts were passed for payment. It was 'decided to write asking the Hon. R. J. Seddon if he could honour us by opening the new school, and that the committee meet in the middle of January to make necessary arrangements in connection with such opening. The chairman urged the headmaster to earnestly invite parents to attend the prize distribution on the special ground that it would be their last opportunity of witnessing such a function in the building where many of them went to school themselves. On the proposal of Rev. Wilson, seconded by Mr Gray, a hearty vote of thanks' was extended to Mr I. J, Fake for his liberality in giving special prizes for the school children. The Committee then adjourned.
