Below is a complete list of votes polled at the different booths throughout the electorate. It will be seen that Mr John Stevens was returned by a Gardner, by ’failing to register onefourth of the vote* of the’ returned candidate, loses his deposit of £lO, The figures read :
Local Option.
For continuance of existing licenses, 1993 votes were polled against 1587 last election, for reduction 1583 against 1096, and for no license 2535 against 1400. It will be seen that the votes polled on the license question showed an increase all round compared with last election. We are unable to give the correct number of votes short of three-fitths majority required to carry no-license, owing to the difficulty of assessing the valid votes cast. When these have been gone through by the Returning Officer, we will publish same. The polling on Wednesday was:—
