Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY. DECEMBER 9, 1905. “HOSPITAL DAY.”
In jail parts of the district efforts are being made to false ftihdg td enlarge the Palmerston Hospital-, and in connection therewith, the following letter has been sent to the Clergy in Foxton by the local committee, Messrs Gower and Fraser:—
“ Reverend Sir, —We, the undersigned members of the Palmerston North “ Hospital Day ” Committee beg that you will help the present most deserving movement, that of providing funds to enlarge the Hospital, which is far too small for present and future requirements, and as the inhabitants of this Borough and district make constant use of the institution the Committee feel sure that this appeal will meet with your ready and willing help. We would therefore respectfully suggest that Sunday, the 24th of December, should be “ Hospital Sunday ” in Foxton, that appropriate sermons be preached, and at least one of the offertories on that day be given as a contribution to the 1 ‘ Hospital Day Fund.” Thanking you in anticipation for srour5 r our kind help to the sick and suffering.—We beg to remain, yours faithfully, B. G. Gower, (Mayor), Ale. Fraser, (Town Clerk).”
Lists have also been sent to the various flaxtnill owners in the district, and we understand that there is likely to be a friendly rivalry between both the Churches and the mills as to who shall head the list. This is as it should be, because when the whole district is working together for such a laudable object, Foxton must keep up its character for liberal assistance to deserving cases.
