‘THE MANAWATU SEAT.
Great interest was taken throughout the electorate yesterday in the election of a member for this district, which .resulted ill the return of Mr John Stevens, the Government candidate. We cannot suppi/ our readers with the correct figure 1 - throughout the electorate, though thw total figures read; —Stevens, 2362 ; VE®» *9B* % Gardner, 230, In Foxton, the polling WAS ? Stevens, 424; Vile, 127; GardjaSTj 76 ‘ LOCAL OPTION POLli For continuance of the liquor traffic throughout the electorate there were 1795 votes cast, for reduction 1489, and for no license 2185. Although a bare majority was polled in favour of no license, the'bare.figures supplied fall 203 short of the number required to . * filter the existing order of things. In Foxton itself, a majority was polled, though the number fell 40 odd sL l ort effectively.
