Personal.

A Hobart cablegram says Captain Hutton, curator of the Christchurch museum, embarked on the Rimutaka in London in a bad state of health and died of pneumonia and exhaustion. He was buried at sea. His wife was aboard.

Referring to Miss Hutchings (“ Belle Napier”), a Dublin paper says:— “ Miss Belle Napier, who was taking the part of Lady Crystal in ‘ The Catch oßthe Season,’ is one of the most promising of rising actresses. Her fine physique and her gracious stage presence are immediate points in her favour, but to them she unites a rare intelligence in reading a part, and a wonderfully deep voice, which has great carrying power. She is a New Zealander by birth, and though only five years on the stage, has been very successful in securing good en j gagernents.” Miss Agnes Murphy, a journalist who visited New Zealand last year, has returned to London after a lengthy stay in the United States. She declares that the only Australasians who are known in the United States are Madame Melba apd Mr Seddon. Commenting on this statement, the “ British Australasian ” remarks : There seems to be only one way of enlightening the darkness of America. Why nnt send a baseball team to the States ? Great Britain has just rediscovered New Zealand as a result of the dash of the Maoriland footballers, and in Baris they have been studying the map to find Australia because of the visit of Miss Annette Kellerman. This lady, by the way, is about to visit the States, and the names of well-known Australasians will soon be three instead of two.”
