Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1905. Borough Cuncil Matters.

The Foxton Borough Council on Monday night will be asked to deal with the question of important works, viz., the erection of eon--crete bridges across the Avemie and Main street. file fof .iier has almost been decided upon, and tenders for the work will be opened at the meeting. It remains for the Council to accept one of these with the condition that the work be gone on with immediately; As to the Mhiit street bridge; cVr tainly this work can be done without for a while, but if satisfactory arrangements for a loan can be made, it behoves the Council to deal with the matter and call tenders for completing the work at once. The Main street water scheme seems to have goiit? out of people's thoughts, and it may be just as well for the Council to touch upon the matter of shielding us from the spread of fire, and, if possible, providing us with a plentiful supply of water for household use. Now is the time to act ! If not, let our pro* gressive ideas flicker out like the flame of our kerosene lamps on dark nights’ when they are most needed.
