Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1905. MANAWATU FOOTBALL MATTERS.
Four special meetings were held by the Manawatu Rugby Unionjo fathom the charges made agailiSt its touring team whfrh Visited Wellingtonrecentlv. Although much evidence was adduced, that evidence was certainly not of a direct nature, though finally it was considered conclusive enough to account for the disqualification! of three members of the team for the period of one year, and another for lif*. It is with regret that we record such examples had to bh made, but this conduct complained of certainly merited it, though there are those who assort that some of the individuals punished are suffering the sins ol others. It is certainly pleasing to know that certain other members of the team, whose character has alwavs been above suspicion, have thus been clea-ed from r ’iahilil- . Still, that is no consolation to the man who is punished for a wrong he never committed. It is said some of the players disqualified are appealing to the New Zealand Rugby Union against thensuspension, and it will be interesting to watch events. The Uni n had a hard matter to grapple with, and it is to be hoped that the district will not be again forced into disrepute by similar occurrences. Manawatu foolball has never before received such a severe blow, and may the warning prove effective!
