Immigration Restriction.
London, Oct 24. The Times, in an article on immi* gration restriction, says special pro* vision would meet the special case of the importation of “ blacklegs ” during a strike, but it is certain that as absolute laissez faire policy as regards coloured people would make Australia the home of a yellow and brown population. The existence of onr race demands restriction and regulation which ought to be as little invidious as possible. The Times agrees with Mr Deakin that there is room f<r a restatement of the case, and id Is that the growth of Imperial unitv must be based 0 > a compromise and not a verbal subterfuge. The Motherland must realise the nature of Australia’s problems and modify her pre*conceived theories to suit them. Australia, in the interest of the Empire and her own progress, must learn to separate what is essential to the development of the white race and the maintenance of the standard of Hying - from what is not essential. She most Afc retain the former.
