London, October 21. The “ Manchester Guardian ” referring to Mr Deakin’s statement in regard to the Immigration Restriction Act, says that since Japan, under the new treaty, may fight for the defence of Australia, * she has additional grounds tor discontent at Australia’s attitude toward her.

“ From the British point of view,” the“ Guardian” adds, “the disabilities of our Indian subjects touch our self-respect more closely than those of an allied but alien nation.”
