A meeting of Mr Stevens political eupporters was held at Himataogi on Thursday for the purpose of forming an election committee, and in spite of the extremely rough weather outside there was a large and representative gathering in the school-house to meet the Government candidate and commence the election campaign on his behalf. It having been unanimously resolved by those present to form themselves into a committee with power to add to their numbers. Mr F. T. Conlan was elected chairman and Mir F. C. Raikes secretary, and at the chairman’s request Mr Stevens gave a brio! address outlining his political opinions, and also mentioned the activity which was being displayed by bis several committees 1 n other parts ot the electorate, The committee then decided to meal; again as soon as possible in order to commence active work in (he furtherance of the candidate’s cause. Hearty votes of (hanks were accordod to Mr Stevens for bis short address and to the chairman and secretary for their services, which concluded a very successful meeting.
