Mr C. J. Hewlett has been appointed Sheriff for the Manawatu district. Mr H. C. N. Leadley has been appointed Clerk of the Court at Marton and Bulls, and clerk of the Manawatu Liceusing Committee, vice Mr J. E. Patrick transferred. A rumour circulated iu Palmerston North during the week to the effect that the Hon, J. Carroll had dropped dead in the street at Wellington, proved to be a huge hoax, as the Native Minister is still hale and hearty.
