Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1905. RATEPAYERS AWAKE!
Poxton ratepayers are called together to-morrow night at the Public Hall to discuss two important matters, and it behoves one and all to be present, and thus show some enthusiasm in these questions, viz., providing our town with an up-to-date water supply, and the consideration of a fire prevention scheme. These are perhaps the most vital questions to engage our attention* and now that the dty season is upon us it is f<Jr ttS to act-, And act shortly. If ratepayers could only see that the borrowing of money for these muchneeded works is A Wise step* thefe would not b& such objection to a borrowing policy, but we feel assured that unless such a course is followed, Foxton will remain stagnant, while much smaller towns will go on progressing* and thus leave us in the background as they have been doing for years past. The increase in rates seems to be the main argument against the improvement of our borough, but the sooner ratepayers rid themselves »t such thoughls and realize that the increase of the Value Of their homes as a result of progression will more' than counterbalance the strain caused by the increase of such rates, so much the better for the good of the borough generally. Ratepayers, dont forget to attend to-morrow night’s meeting, and act wisely and definitely!
